O.S Geiger School is a dynamic learning community consisting of 20 classrooms from Kindergarten to Grade 6 including an exceptional learning needs classroom and an Early Development Center classroom.
Our school has many amenities and supports in place to support our belief that learning is to be meaningful and engaging. We have a large Learning Commons with a variety of picture books, fiction and non-fiction materials. Our technology includes four carts of laptops, iPads, SMARTBoards in every classroom and digital cameras. We offer daily physical education in an oversized gym in order to promote healthy living. All students work with a Fine Arts Teacher each week as they discover what it means to learn through the arts.
Other highlights of O.S. Geiger School include: a strong literacy program, ELL support, field trips, student clubs and leadership opportunities, an extensive outdoor creative playground, three large soccer fields, two baseball diamonds, an indoor climbing wall and various community partnerships.

O.S. Geiger School embraces opportunities for students to engage in meaningful experiences that will support and enhance learning. We are linked to many agencies and community-based programs that make our school a vibrant place, dedicated to students. Examples of our ongoing involvement include:

Who Was O.S. Geiger?
O.S. Geiger School was named in honour of Alberta educator O.S. (Pelk) Geiger (1906-1987). Mr. Geiger served as teacher, principal, supervisor, and superintendent of elementary schools within the Calgary Board of Education for 42 years. He had the rare ability of gathering around him enlightened educators in whom he placed trust and confidence, which created a climate of excitement and growth in the sixties and seventies.
His constant question, "Is it good for kids?" served as an excellent guide in an exciting period of education. Many fine programs that exist in our schools today can be linked directly to the time of Mr. Geiger's leadership. His influence impacted the lives of thousands of students in Calgary, and his mark on education continues through others who have the same dedication and commitment to the educational growth of young people.

We are committed to acknowledging and supporting the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission 94 Calls to Action specific to education. Our school, along with all CBE schools, made a Truth and Reconciliation Commitment to Action, on June 21, we renewed our commitment.

School Development Plan
Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.
