Dear OSG Families,
Is it spring or winter? Our Calgary weather continues to keep us guessing day to day! With the wet weather and muddy field as snow melts, we strongly suggest continuing to send students to school wearing boots and keeping an extra, dry pair of socks in their backpacks.
We hit the ground running this week following Spring Break and there are many events coming up as we move through the last 3 months of the year.
Solar Eclipse
On Monday, April 8 a partial solar eclipse will be visible in Calgary. The solar event will begin just before noon and conclude by 2:00 p.m., with the maximum coverage occurring at 12:43 p.m.
We know that this provides a unique learning experience for students and staff in our schools; however, there can be serious impacts to vision as a result of viewing the eclipse in an unsafe manner.
During this partial solar eclipse on Monday, we would like to invite all students to remain at school during the lunch break. Please send a lunch with your child. If students are not participating in educational activities around the event, schools may choose to have students will be involved in supervised indoor activities.
If you decide that your child will walk home for lunch on Monday, please discuss with your child not to look at the sun to protect their eyes from damage by the solar eclipse.
During a solar eclipse, looking directly at the sun is dangerous. Safe viewing of the eclipse requires wearing specialized glasses or watching through a telescope or solar binoculars that have specialized lenses and should only be performed under the direction of a professional.

Registration for 2024-25
If you have a student that currently attends O.S. Geiger School and you have another child that will attend Kindergarten next year, you must register them as soon as possible. Please click here to access the CBE Kindergarten Registration Guide and the online registration forms. Also, if you know of another family that will have a child attending kindergarten in the fall, please encourage them to register now as well.
If you are moving or your child will be attending a different school next year, please contact the main office as soon as possible as we are already beginning to plan for the 2024-25 school year.
Volunteer Registration
As we move into the last few months of the school year, many classes will be planning to go on off-site field trips. To provide required supervision, we rely on volunteers to come with us on these trips. WITHOUT ENOUGH VOLUNTEERS, TRIPS WILL NEED TO BE CANCELLED.

Food Bank Donations
Student leadership group has been sharing their learning about Ramadan within our morning announcements. In the spirit of Ramadan, O.S.Geiger is collecting non-perishable food donations (cans, boxes of pasta, etc.) and new personal hygiene products (deodorant, soap, shampoo etc.). Items will be collected until April 19, 2024.
Healthy Sexual Development | Family & Caregiver Well-Being Session
As part of a continued effort to support the well-being of students, CBE is committed to sharing valuable information about child and youth well-being with families and caregivers. This is the last (of five) sessions available for families and caregivers, this time focusing on 'healthy sexual development'.
